The choice of band shows that the magazine is aimed at older people specifically 18-25 years old or even 30 years old. The article has a lot of information, although it looks like it is for young adults it’s very much aimed at older people.
The type of words used in the article is very informal. They have used some of the youthful dialect in this article which shows that it may be targeted at a younger audience. There is even a swear word in there which shows that there are no limits in the way they talk within this magazine. They have used monochrome against a very bright green. The black and white background makes it seem very dull but with the green on top of it makes the magazine really stand out. This s very effective because the contrast of the colours. The black and white makes the magazine aim at the older generation whereas as the lime green you think that the magazine is aimed at the older generation. They have also used a very dark blue almost looking like black and this adds drama to the page. There were very creative with colours because they have mixed interesting colours to go with the magazine as a whole.
The style of the text is very interesting as the font looks very messy and upfront. They have put a little quote where it says “I will try to come across a little scarier...” they have made the scarier in bold capital letters as this will intrigued the audience about what this interview is going to be about. They have made the style very different as this magazine looks very muddled because of the way in which they have organised it. They have also used quite a popular technique in which magazines do which is the first letter of the interview is very big and bold as they have imitated this from elsewhere. The double page spread is laid out in a way fit all the information needed to make this a good interview. There is a big image on the left side of the page of the band Slayer, the image is very upfront and very visible for the audience to see. To the right side they have laid out the text where everything has been shoved onto the page and makes it look very untidy. With them doing this makes it look less appealing to the audience. They have taken up to pages but I fell they should have included more pages so everything would be able to fit on the page properly. The tome the magazine is using seems very genuine as they have addressed the reader as a member of the “in” crowd which shows they want to gain a close relationship with their fans. This is a good way for the band to gain popularity because this means they are not perceived to be just another rock band that really has no interest in their fans. The band Slayer show to the audience that they are friendly as the man in the black hoodie if giving a direct mode of address which shows that he is a caring person, whereas the man n the white t-shirt is giving a faint smile to the audience. I have not seen the magazine cover so I cannot judge whether it suits the magazine cover overall.
Magazine Article 2
The person in the article gives the impression of a Hip-Hop vibe which is not likely to be attracting the older audiences so I think this is shown to be for younger people from the age range of 18-25 years old. The magazine is a Hip-Hop magazine which maybe a bit too explicit for the older generation as well s this will shows the targeted audience. As this is a Hip-Hop magazine there will be some inappropriate language in the article. The language is very youthful as it contains certain phrases that younger people would understand which the older generation will not. There are many swear words as well as slang words which can be seen as being negative, but GZA I only talking about himself on a good way. The colours are simple to the audience. There are a lack of colours used which could of attracted the audience more but as this is a Hip-Hop magazine and this is a serious interview that is why they decided to go with neutral colours. There is a little bit of colour to the magazine with the red. The red is very bold and catches the eye of the audience and they used important phrases GZA has used have made it a bit more appealing. The colours go well together and do not clash as theses colours seem to look controversial. The style used in the article is very upfront. The words are in bigger writing than a usual article as they wanted it to stand out among the audience. With GZA’s phrase that was in big bold letters to show that this is an important part of the article. The actual interview is in standard writing which is very good to go along with the big bold letters. This does not look messy unlike the other article for Kerrang magazine. The double page spread is laid out like a standard article. The image of the person in this case GZA is standing on the right of the page. The image is very spread out on the page as his look and the way he is standing is very important amongst the reader. The left side has the interview which contains a lot of information about GZA. The articles are 4 main columns which are much more spread out and easier to read. The colour of the question asked is different from his answer which makes it less difficult. There is only a small space separating the different columns. The article is slightly slanted which makes it look like it is in a letter form. This article is different from Kerrang as this seems more like a friend to friend interview because it is very personal and opinionated. The tone is very gentle as it is very open and GZA seems like a nice person who is ready to let the world know about him and his life. The magazine is not written in a way as an “in” member of the crowd because they wanted the audience e to gain a good relationship with GZA. GZA is perceived to be a very nice and respected person within the Hip-Hop scene. The article shows him to be unlike the other Hip-Hop artists we hear of today and this shows that GZA s not just a regular person and in this is what will attracted a wider audience. The magazine cover does match the magazine article as the cover is all about GZA and the style is very much like the front cover.
